Beechings Folly Hire Band A A musical on railways? You might assume this! But its more a comedy musical on events around the closure of one of the top cross country railway lines in the UK and is still missed to this day (the Oxford to Cambridge railway,) The story is set in the early 1960’s when the line was still running but the story concentrates on how it affected the Winslow commuters and tells of their battle to keep the line open. Nothing like the Titfield Thunderbolt and the show has some moving scenes as the campaign team get in to their stride. It’s fiction, of course on how the infamous Dr Beeching gets locked in a station waiting room. To put on this show you don’t need any interest in railways, and your cast will love the action that continues throughout the show. Characters like Dr Richard Beeching and his secretary Miss Carina Smith and campaign bosses Mrs Muriel Parfitt and Mr Derek Sooth give real colour to the ongoing tale and they are backed up by another twenty five or so characters who make this show an absolute must for adults or teenage casts . There are around eighteen original songs all scored for voice and piano. And a three part harmony score also exits for this show Songs like ‘Waiting for the train’ and ‘Why do they feel they should shut our line?’ and ‘She’s a strange one that Carina’ and ‘One of the Railways of England’ and ‘I’m sorry he’s gone’ and ‘ You must wait in the station waiting room’ ‘and ‘Re Open The Line’ and many more The costume potential is simple and the scenery can be imaginative with a whole station and signal box to create for the main set This show got away to an exceptional first draft performance in May 1990 Directors and cast will get huge satisfaction in putting their efforts in to his show (whether they are railway enthusiasts or not) Ask for perusal material
